About project

On the first of September 2008 started project "Towards cross-border sports communities" (SPORTBODER). The idea of project ensued in the meeting of Ape and Rõuge municipalities, during this meeting turned out that both sides - Latvia and Estonia have similar interests in the field of sport and overlapping area of development are ice sports and ice hockey.

The overall objective of the project is to improve infrastructure and facilities for sport and strengthen relations in the field of sport across borders and promote cooperation between municipalities, educational institutions and sport organizations. Sub-objectives of the project are to build up ice fields in both municipalities; to promote cooperation between municipalities, educational institution and sport organizations of border area; to organize commonwealth sport competitions; to attract more local people, children and youth to take a part in organization of matches and different sport activities; to rise qualification of trainers and sport teachers.

Duration of the project is 18 month. The Lead partner of the project is Ape town with rural area council (LV). Project partners are Rõuge municipality (EE) and NGO "Skystar" (EE). The total budget of project is 336 000 EUR hereof 85% or 285 600 EUR is ERAF funding (Estonia-Latvia programme) and 15% or 50 400 EUR is national public co-financing.
